5 Gallon Bucket Berkey Water Filter* comes with pre-drilled buckets for the number of filters you order, spigot, and a priming button. The bucket water filter is durable and can be upgraded to more filters using a 1/2 inch drill. Compare to the Imperial Berkey. You can choose to add 1, 2, or 3 additional filters adding up to a total of 4 Black Berkey filter elements by selecting the appropriate option to the right.
Bucket Berkey Water Filter* is manufactured by DisasterStuff.com and uses genuine Black Berkey filter elements and spigots. The five-gallon buckets used with this water filter are rated as food grade and are the same style of bucket used in food storage.
Several years ago, New Millennium Concepts was having a difficult time producing enough high capacity Berkey systems for demand. To satisfy that demand, we created the bucket Berkey for our customers. It has been a hit ever since. The Bucket Berkey is inexpensive, is very durable, and produces a lot of filtered water quickly. This is because 5 gallons of water creates a lot of pressure on the Black Berky element. In fact, the Bucket Berkey produces more water than an Imperial Berkey and just a little less than a Crown Berkey for a fraction of the cost. And because the system can be ordered with a single Black Berkey element, the cost is even further reduced.
We have upgraded the Bucket Berkey several times. The latest upgrade was in 2013 when we replaced standard buckets to make it more stable. In the old system, the top chamber could tip over if it was bumped. The new system uses spin top lids that screw on the buckets. Now the top and bottom buckets are securely connected, making a more stable filter system.
The top chamber of the 5 Gallon Bucket Berkey Water Filter can be ordered pre-drilled with holes for 1, 2, 3, or 4 Black Berkey filters. You can order blocking plugs if you don't want to use all the holes you ordered the system with.
The upper chamber and lower chamber are threaded and can be securely fastened to each other. The upper chamber comes with a lid to keep dust and other debris out of the water. The base of the top bucket and the lid on the top bucket should not be screw down tight. Only one turn is necessary. Turning the lids tight can create a vacuum and slow the filtering process. The spin top lids are only there to secure the buckets together so the top bucket does not tip off the lower bucket.
The Berkey Bucket water filter is ideal for emergency preparedness where you do not want to use a Berkey water filter for daily use. It can be assembled in about 10 minutes by one person, although we recommend two people for aligning the washers that seal the two chambers.
