Product Details
A fire blanket is a blanket made of heavy duty fire resistant material designed to extinguish small fires or clothing that is on fire.

How does a Fire Blanket Work?

Fire needs fuel, oxygen and heat.  A fire blanket, when used quickly and effectivly, eliminates the oxygen that a fire needs to continue burning.  Because the blanket is made of fireproof material, it can be placed directly on the fire to suffocate it.

Examples for use of Fire Blankets

  • When a person is wearing clothing that has ignited, tell the person to drop and roll.  While they are rolling, throw the blanket over them and wrap them in it.  If they cannot drop and roll, place the blanket over them like a wrap and seal it tightly around them.
  • When a small fire ignites in a kitchen, trash can or other small area, place the fire blanket directly on top of the fire and smother it.

Fire Blanket Cautions

Using a fire blanket implies that you will need to be close enought to the fire with your hands to place the blanket over the area that is on fire.  Use caution when placing the blanket as your hands and face will be exposed.  Also, remember that once the blanket has been thrown or wrapped, it can be dangerous if you lift it or attempt to re-wrap as the fire will have access to oxygen again.
