The Purified Water Secret Coca Cola Doesn't Want You To Know
Did you know that Dasani and many other bottle water products aren't even bottled at a spring? One brand I read said "Bottled at municipal source in Gardena, CA." Amazing! $4 a gallon for filtered city water. Then a friend told me about her Big Berkey water filter and I knew I had to get one.
My Big Berkey sits on my counter top in the kitchen. It basically has two parts to it. The upper unfiltered water chamber and the lower clean water chamber. I just pour water in the top and gravity does the rest. I get about 3 gallons of water per hour and its purified water. And it tastes great. So now I am filtering water for about .02 cents a gallon. That's a lot less than $4 a gallon.
You can get yours too and start saving today.
Gravity-Based Big Berkey Water Filter
The gravity system of filtration effectively eliminates the need for an external power supply. By pouring the source fluid into the upper chamber of the filter, the unit can filter the water by simply harnessing the power of gravity. As the water drips through the filter into the chamber below, it is cleaned at a rate according to the rate of filtration, which is measured in terms of total gallons per hour. The exterior is made from polished stainless steel, and the filters are designed to conform to the highest filtration standards as set forth by the EPA.
Here is a short list of some of the most important features:
- High gallons per hour
- Storage capacity
- Heavy metal filtration
- Bacteria and pathogen filters
- High water processing capacity
- Minimal space requirements
One key to maintaining good health is to consume plenty of clean drinking water, and the Big Berkey water filter makes this possible. According to the Environmental Working Group, these filters are capable of removing viruses from the water supply as well as more than 90 different chemical contaminants. The PF-2 Berkey water filter also provides protection against the trace elements of fluoride and arsenic, which have been found to be present in over 60 percent of the municipal water in the United States. The removal of bacteria, parasites and other pathogenic substances from the water is essential to maintaining good health. In addition to removing these harmful agents, the Big Berkey water filter also has the ability to extract nitrates, lead, mercury, food coloring, cysts, parasites and VOCs.
Healthy Water, Big Berkey Filter
Health concerns can quickly become urgent during an emergency situation. When potable water becomes unavailable for any reason, this filter can provide enough safe drinking water from non-municipal water sources. Examples include streams of running water, lakes and wells. Drinking water from these sources can be extremely dangerous, so using this great filtration system will offer peace of mind to individuals caught in a stressful emergency situation. The Big Berkey water filter is used in over 130 countries around the world, and it is trusted by some of the most recognized figures in the media. The reputation of the company is backed up by their track record of excellence in supplying safe drinking water to people around the world.
Capacity of The Big Berkey
Most filters will supply plenty of drinking water for two to five individuals; however, there are other filter configurations that allow groups of different sizes to gain enough drinking water. For example, a unit with two filters will easily accommodate two or three people, and a four-filter configuration is ideal for groups made of three to five individuals.
Affordability is also a serious concern for many people who are seeking access to plentiful clean water. This filtration system is highly efficient, and the long life of the product also adds value. The normal lifespan of a water filter is normally measured in the total gallons of output, and this system permits up to 3,000 gallons over its useful life. This reduces to about 10 gallons of clean water every week, which in turn translates into a total life of slightly more than 11 years. This is a substantial benefit for individuals who do not have a lot of disposable income to work with in order to obtain clean drinking water.
Using Big Berkey Water Filter at Home
In addition to using these filters for emergency or outdoor camping purposes, they can also be used to contribute to the health of household users as well. Space considerations are important when using these filters within small homes and apartments. For example, the filter's dimensions must be able to fit comfortably in the available space. Overhead clearance is one concern, and lateral clearance is the other. The unit stands 20.5 inches high, so it might be necessary to measure the vertical space where the unit will reside. In addition, the 9.5-inch diameter may constrain the space available in the kitchen, so this measurement should be taken before introducing the unit into the room. However, unless the space is unusually cluttered or small, the filter should easily fit in most kitchens or adjacent living areas.
Applications for This Filter
The application for these water filters depend on the needs of the specific area. For example, a temporary shortage of drinkable water is probable after a major natural disaster. These filters have been used by the Peace Corps as well as the International Red Cross to reduce the suffering caused by a lack of potable water. One of the least visible but most important ways that this water filter can save money is by reducing the expenses involved in purchasing a steady supply of bottled water.
For example, most retailers who sell bottled water by the gallon charge around 80 cents to a dollar for one container. Refills tend to cost around 20 cents, and in some areas, the cost can be as high as 50 cents. Single serving bottles of water retail at more than a dollar in most places. Compare this to the average cost of a gallon of filtered water, which averages around 1.6 cents. Over time, the cost of the filter could be completely recovered by regularly using the delicious drinking water provided by a Big Berkey water filter.
This water filter produces high quality purified water using Black Berkey water filters and gravity. Big Berkey is the best selling table top Berkey and is recommended by experts in the health industry for producing healthy water and experts in survival for emergency water processing when municipal water sources have been contaminated. Built from durable, highly polished 304 stainless steel, Big Berkey filters can be used as a home filtration system or for recreational water filtering while camping. The standard configuration with two Black Berkey filters will process up to 6000 gallons of purified water.
How to use a Big Berkey
Big Berkey is a table top gravity filter and does not require power. Two or four Black Berkey filters are installed in the upper chamber where unfiltered water is added. To filter water, pour water into the upper chamber. Water is pulled through the Black Berkey filters by the force of gravity and purified water drips into the clean water chamber. The drip rate is based on two factors, how many filters are installed and how much water is in the top chamber. It is estimated that the gallons of water per hour filtered by Big Berkey are:
Gallons Per Hour by number of Elements Installed:
- 2 Elements = 3.5 GPH
- 4 Elements = 7 GPH
When using a Big Berkey, you can increase the flow rate of the water by keeping the upper chamber full. However, you must empty the lower chamber at the same rate or the lower chamber can overflow where the two chambers meet. This is because the following capacity levels must be observed:
Storage Capacity: 2.25 Gallons
One way to avoid overflow of the purified water in the lower chamber is to install a water level view sight glass spigot which reveals the level of the water in the lower chamber.
This filter system is commonly used for two to five people. For two or three people a system with 2 Black Berkey filters is sufficient. Groups of three to five people will benefit from four filter configurations. If you expect to provide water for more than five people on a regular basis, a Royal Berkey or Imperial Berkey may be more appropriate.
Using Big Berkey on Tables and Counters
Because Big Berkey water filters are used as table top water filters it is important to understand their space requirements. If you are installing your Big Berkey on a table, make sure that the table is stable enough to support the weight of the water filter when in use. With a capacity of 2.25 gallons of water, the Big Berkey can weigh over 24 pounds. The surface where the Big Berkey is placed should be flat and stable, able to support the weight. In addition, the Big Berkey needs to either hang off the edge of a table or counter so that a typical glass or cup can easily slide under the spigot for filling. The other option is to raise the Big Berkey using a stand which will then allow for enough clearance under the spigot to get a glass under it.
Another important space consideration is the overall height of the Big Berkey. With the rubber base on the lower chamber and the lid knob on the top chamber, the Big Berkey's requirements are:
Space Requirements: 20.5" height clearance. 9" width clearance.
The reason the height requirement is important has to with overhead cabinet doors. If the Big Berkey is placed on a counter top and there are cupboards above, consideration has to be given for the cupboard doors. Because the Big Berkey stands 20.5 inches high, the distance between the counter top and the bottom of the cupboard doors must be greater that 21" or the cupboard door will hit the top of the Big Berkey, preventing access to the contents of the cupboards. It is best to take these measurements prior to ordering to avoid returns or damage to your Big Berkey and cupboard doors.
